Pietro Strozzi · Scrub nurse

I do not begin a procedure hoping it will go well.

I prepare beforehand. I organise the information, anticipate what may be needed and bring calm to the table when tension rises.

My experience

I left the operating room. Then I returned and understood what truly stays with you.

After five years at the operating table, a three-and-a-half-year break and my return to the OR, I understood that some skills are not forgotten.

What remains is how you observe, the order in which you prepare the table and your ability to understand what will be needed before anyone asks.

I also understood that experience should not depend on scattered notes, phone photographs and information passed on verbally.

1return with a more deliberate method

For too long, nurses have accepted preparing with fragmented tools.

Dentro il Blocco Operatorio was created to change that way of working.

Why the project exists

Turn experience into organised, repeatable preparation.

I created Dentro il Blocco Operatorio to share what I wish I had found before entering the OR and during my first months as a scrub nurse: concrete guides, practical checklists and a method to use before the procedure.

Trust is visible

The goal is not to feel perfect. It is to become reliable.

When a surgeon stops me in the corridor to ask whether I will be scrubbing, they are not rewarding talent. They are recognising everything that happened beforehand.

“Good, you're here today.”

Surgeon

“You can tell when you are at the table instead of someone else.”

Surgeon

“Pietro always maintains an enviable calm.”

Nursing colleague

“The day flew by and everything went well. I had never seen the surgeon so calm and cheerful.”

How I work

Calm is not improvised. It is built beforehand.

01

Prepare

I study the procedure, instruments, materials and critical points before entering the room.

02

Anticipate

I do not only wait for a request: I follow the sequence and prepare what may be needed next.

03

Stay clear-headed

When something changes, I return to the map and separate tension from the problem to solve.
